Our day in Santorini…

On our recent Celebrity cruise one of our ports was the stunning Santorini, we hadn’t booked a ships tour as we have been before for a land based holiday.

Santorini is a tender port and the ships dock in the caldera with views to Santorini on one side and the volcano on the other the third small island is therasia. Once off the tender there are a few options you can get the cable car which costs €6 to Fira at the top of the cliff face, you can walk the 587 steps or take a donkey. There also boat trips from the port and we chose to take a one to Oia the cost was €15 each and include the boat trip to Oia the coach to take you up to the town and then a coach left every hour to bring you back to Fira.

The boat took about 20-30 mins to reach Oia it was open topped so you could take in the scenery. Once there we got the bus to the town you could spend as much time there as you wished the bus left every hour back to Fira. We had about an hour and half wandering the little streets taking in the lovely resort. If you get the chance to watch the sunset it’s well worth it,  people line the streets, they are on the roof tops and walls its beatuiful to see from such a stunning location. The resorts on this side of the island are all built on the cliff side and have little streets and hotels going down the cliff edge because of the positioning there are no cars so it’s lovely to just wander. Theres an abundance of shops and restaurants make sure to book a resturant for sunset as they  get very busy.

We headed back to Fira a short ride away. The town was very busy as there were  3  ships in. Again it’s very similar to Oia built on the cliff side with stunning views and a good choice of resturants and shops. We took the cable car back down to the port and the tender back to the ship, thankfully the queue was short however it can get really busy so allow plenty of time to catch the tender.

We have always loved this unique island and will definetly return till next time…
